The National Archives released more than 600 new records Friday relating to the 1963 assassination of President John F. Kennedy, at the Trump administration’s behest. Shocking documents were uncovered about Martin Luther King Jr., including tax evasion, affairs, prostitutes and more.
The documents, dated 1968, allege financial improprieties by King’s civil rights organization, the Southern Christian Leadership Conference. It goes on to label the African-American civil rights organization King led as a “tax dodge” and describes the alleged communist ties of King’s associates.
A large section of the document, entitled “Kings Personal Conduct,” contains many claims of King’s extramarital affairs, including a sordid relationship with folk singer Joan Baez. Documents state that “a responsible Los Angeles individual” informed an agent that King had an affair with the wife of a prominent black dentist and may have fathered a baby girl.
The alleged sex acts that King regularly engaged in are described as “unnatural” and “abnormal” and gives details about an orgy that took place during workshops that King held in Miami, Florida in February 1968. These workshops were funded by the Ford Foundation and were meant to train black ministers in leadership, not sexual deviation.
Some of the details included in the document: “Several Negro and white prostitutes were brought in from the Miami area. An all night-sex orgy was held with these prostitutes and some of the delegates in attendance.”
“One room had a large table in it which was filled with whiskey. The two Negro prostitutes were paid $50.00 to put on a sex show for the entertainment of the guests. A variety of sex acts deviating from the normal were observed.”
Included in the documents are mention of King pursuing his “sexual aberrations” secretly, while showing what the public to believe was a moral leader of religious conviction.
